Most people’s ideas of MLM are so far off-base they are missing the boat on achieving financial renewal and freedom. In today’s economy, their misunderstanding’s could be a crucial mistake.
It never fails to amaze me about all the misconceptions out there about MLM . Even my ex-wife still refers to them as “pyramid” schemes. People I talk to think of MLM opportunities as anything but opportunities, rather their opinion of them is nothing more than some scam orchestrated by people at the top that make big money off of all the little people at the bottom.
The prevailing opinion is that the only people that can make money in MLM are those at the top of the “pyramid”, and that for those at the base, there is no one left to add below them. Little could be further from the truth.
It never dawns on all those who distrust or abhor multi-level marketing companies that even if they were the ones who got in at the top, they wouldn’t make any money unless they sold the product or brought in associates under them. An individual can come in at anytime and find their spot in the associate chain, and it still comes down to selling and bringing in associates under them, regardless of whether they are at the top or the bottom.
It’s too easy to blame others for failure. It is absurd to say that if one is at the bottom of the chain the market is saturated and there is no one else left to build a business with. Since the vast majority of people in this country, or for that matter the entire world, are not involved in MLM businesses, it would go to show that if one’s business were something like a health and wellness product for example, the market would be virtually untapped for potential clients.
Obviously, as in all business opportunities, whether it be selling real estate or insurance, owning a restaurant or nursery, running a furniture or antique store, marketing and selling products online, you name the business, there are going to be those who succeed and those who fail. You don’t have to be the first in your type of business to find clients or buyers, and those that are first don’t necessarily always succeed. With any business, success will go to those who work the smartest, advertise the best, have superior products and/or service, and manage their business well. Those that don’t make it happen can’t lay the blame on the idea that someone else was there first before them.
And so it goes, that people who become involved in MLM will go either way as well. Those that sit back and expect their business to grow by doing little or nothing will fail and then they will bad-mouth MLM opportunities as pyramid scams. Those that advertise and promote their business, bring quality associates under them, train those associates to do likewise, and build a strong business beneath them, will be successful entrepreneurs and enjoy the lasting residual incomes that we all dream about.
It is true that some MLM companies have been fly-by-night schemes where associates joining the business have to pay thousands of dollars up front for product they will neither use or be able to sell. And some have poor products. But there are a great many reputable companies with outstanding products, that have chosen to spread the word and sales of their products through the power of numbers multiplying through relationship marketing rather than with millions of dollars of advertising.
So it would be wise when looking into MLM businesses, to first do some research on the company behind it; it’s products, financial strength, length of time in business, and what is required to be an associate. Do the research you would wisely do when embarking upon any business endeavor.
Many will fail in the MLM business because they don’t know how to market and don’t understand how to attract people into their business. They will end up joining the ranks of the MLM whiners who blame “that pyramid scheme.” Those that don’t know how at first find mentors who will teach them the business and provide them with the knowledge and tools to build a successful online business. And they will be the MLM success stories who enjoy financial renewal in their lives.
