Setting goals? What do these 2 words mean to you? Do you cringe and run the other way? Do you think you can do it all and forget what intentions you set for yourself? It is easy to say you are going to set goals but most of us ignore them, beginning with your New Year’s resolutions!
So you say, where is it I fail? How do I keep these intentions I have set for myself or biz? What does goal setting mean to you?
Let’s take a look at setting and keeping your goals. When you set goals for yourself or for a business you have to be realistic! Don’t set a aspiration so high that you set yourself up for failure! You need to know your limitations and set your goals within these limits. Do you set goals for the whole year? Is that realistic for you? I for one do not believe in New Years resolutions. I would rather look at what I need to do, personally or business wise, every month. I have also done quarterly ambitions for myself. You should pick what will work best for you as we are all different!
First thing to do is to sit down without distractions and think and list what your goals are. Immediately put them in writing so you do not forget them as you proceed. Look these over and decide if they are realistic for you and within your time frame chosen. Don’t set yourself up for failure with unrealistic goals in the time frame chosen. For example, don’t aim to lose 10 pounds in a week, instead I would make my goal to stay on my diet.
Next I would outline these goals in order of importance and make a plan of action! Write down goal and what you need to do to achieve this. List them one by one. Look them over. Are they realistic? Are there too many? Are these ambitions reachable?
I like to post my goals on the wall near my desk so when I go to work at my desk these goals jump out and me and remind me daily what I need to do.
Once your goal is completed it feels really good to cross that right off your list! Keep this up week by week or month by month, or whatever time frame you decided on and eventually you will find yourself meeting your goals better and more effectively! You will then become more successful with your business, self improvement, and home goals as you go along!
Good luck meeting your goals and aspirations and may you find yourself more and more successful!
