I am going to examine the company for you and review what I have found. I am not a part of Amway, but I will provide you with a review about the company with honesty. Amway is one of biggest MLM (multi-level marketing) companies. Amway is second in line, behind Avon, which has been around over a 100 years.
The company started over 50 years ago, and has built into a major global company, and now has businesses in 98 countries world wide. The founders are Richard DeVos and Jay Van Andel. Richard, is now retired, and Jay, has passed away. Therefore, their sons are in charge of the company. In 1999, Amway joined up with another company within Alticor Group called Quixtar, and the multi-level marketing company was born. In 2008 the company made sales in over 8 billion dollars, and in 2009 it made over 9 billion dollars.
The products for Amway include household cleaning products, cosmetics, jewelry, air purifiers, water purifiers, health supplements, and sport drinks, just to name a few. The company still sells liquid organic cleansers, and nutritional products, as well. Based on what I have found their products are really reputable and the company is not a scam. Most people sell to their friends, family, and host hotel parties.
The company has been wrongly accused of a pyramid scheme in 1979. After researching the facts, it was found that the company was clean. There were some claims made in 2007 in Britain and India, but Amway was found to have a legit business structure. Most MLM companies it is required to have a massive down line of people in order to make a good income, that is the reason why multi level marketing can sometimes be difficult.
The compensation plan basically is designed that you as a distributor get people to buy products, and sign up for automatic shipments. You also sign people up to be distributors on your team so you get a percentage of what they sell to others. Amway distributors are known as Independent Business Owners, some distributors must sponsor many people, who sponsor many others to make large amount of income. Basically, until you as a distributor have a large group, you will only be getting the retail profits from your sales. There is no sign up fee as far as I own, it just takes some dedication for the business. Many people have made lots of money in the company, despite some horror stories from a few Amway representatives.
